Getting to Know Your Relationship with Food

Have you ever thought about your relationship with food? Just like people, it can be complicated. Today, we explore how to change your relationship with food and how to compassionately partner with your emotional eating behaviors so that you can create meaningful, lifelong change. But will the time spent changing your relationship with food be enough to lastingly overcome the overpowering urges of emotional eating and fill the void with something other than food?

"The time you spend noticing and paying attention to the role food is playing in your life will be the most valuable time spent”. - Norma Frahn

In this episode, we will take the first step to understanding the emotional eating parts of you so that you can learn to work with them instead of fighting against them:

- Acknowledge the emotional responses that drive you to eat and practice telling yourself you are safe to help cope with these emotions.
- Be an observer of your own thinking and actions, noticing patterns and triggers that lead to emotional eating.
- Identify situations or interactions that trigger a desire to eat, such as certain activities or times of day.
- Recognize and label emotions that arise when reaching for food, such as stress, frustration, or boredom.
- Notice the thoughts or diet brain chatter that occur in moments when reaching for food, and be aware of conflicting thoughts.
